Guided town walk information

Midway through the 19th century, growing numbers of people descended upon Blankenberge, transforming both the town and the harbour area into an international tourist centre. The completion of the Bruges-Blankenberge railway in 1863 turned the town into an easily accessible tourist attraction. The seafront quickly filled with densely packed, uninterrupted rows of villas. An impressive casino was built on the Fort Napoleon site. The fishing boats, once a centuries’ old sight on the beach, moved to a sheltered harbour. This walk shows you how Blankenberge evolved from fishing village to the sparkling seaside resort it is today.
