This summer, Blankenberge is once again focusing on corona-safe alternatives that provide sufficient dispersion. The result? A pleasant atmosphere. And all of that in a belle-époque outfit. More than ever Blankenberge proudly wears the label 'centre of the belle époque'.
Blankenberge is truly the centre of the belle époque at the Belgian coast. A trump card that we will definitely play. Flagpoles brighten up the city centre and the elegant lady Belle - the belle époque mascot - plays a central role in the city flags. Here and there, floor stickers will direct you to the Belle Epoque Centre and banners on Koning Leopold IIIplein will create the right atmosphere. The project is for children, youth and parents.
The story of Belle
That Belle plays a central role in the Belle-époque experience is evidenced by the Story of Belle, in which our Belle-époque mascot plays the leading role in her own story. The story, written by Katrien Vervaele, is presented in a real book. You can obtain a hard copy from the Tourist Information Centre, the Belle Epoque Centre or the Blankenberge library.
Are you a fan of mystery and suspense? A virtual city (murder) game focuses on the murder mystery of Belle. The game is developed in four languages and runs until August 2022 via Facebook Messenger. Would you like to take part? All you need is a smartphone. After you have registered via the app, you will receive a code. This will guide you through riddles and assignments to ten places in Blankenberge. Together with your family you can solve a more than 100 year old mystery in Blankenberge. Exciting!
Cocktail and chocolate praline by Dominique Persoone
Internationally renowned chocolatier and chef Dominique Persoone has been working with the best restaurants of Belgium and the world's top chefs for some time now. The shock-o-latier now adds our seaside resort to his list. Especially for Blankenberge, flavour artist Persoone developed a belle-époque cocktail, based on the poem The Wind by Jeanne Vande Putte. Would you like to try it? You can do so at participating local traders and restaurants. In autumn, from September onwards, he will launch a new Blankenberge chocolate praline. You can savour it at local traders. More about this later.
The Instagram contest Looking for Belle also runs until October. Every week Belle is hiding herself somewhere in Blankenberge. Go out and post a photo with Belle on your feed. Use #buitengewoonbelle and tag @visitblankenberge. If your profile is public, you have a chance of winning a 25 euro Blankenberge voucher. You can take part in the Instagram contest until 5 October 2021.
